Mug
v. The Singaporean version of cramming for exams, i.e. scanning notes into one's brain. As if it wasn't filled with enough junk already.

Only if Necessary
adv. The night before for classroom assessments; one day for lecture tests; and one day and night (per subject) for major examinations.

Happy Lunar New Year

It feels so soon, and yet here we are celebrating yet another new year again, this time not with booze and fireworks but with mahjong and firecrackers.

I swear that next time Chinese New Year rolls around, I'll go memorise a list of new year greetings so that I won't end up dumbfounded when someone asks for a unique greeting (since everyone's probably heard the cliche "新年快乐 万事如意" year after year already.) And also so that my relatives will be very very happy upon hearing that they have been blessed with good luck and will thus give much much angpao moolah. =D

So I'll do my part and wish that your dreams will come true, and that everyone may be prosperous (despite the recession of course), have good health, tumbling fortunes, good results, a long life, many sons and daughters, many fishes year upon year and of course much payouts from the Resilience Package.

And since it'll be 12 years before we can make this joke again, here goes:

HAPPY 牛 YEAR!

PS My dad received an email from a "fengshui queen" saying that it will be a tough year ahead because:
Many countries would go into recession and hence unemployment, food matters, environment matters, natural disasters, accidents would be the key issues

She also said that the events on 4 Feb (beginning of spring season on solar calender) will determine our fortune for the year ahead, so remember to kick some Vader ass on that day. And finally, in order to have more good luck and for your wealth to grow in 2009, you must throw lots of coins on your writing desk in the study room or anywhere in the living room, especially in my room as well. xD

Mundayz D:

But the outlook for this coming Monday (i.e. tomorrow!) is especially bleak, because its now official:

'O' LEVEL RESULTS ON MONDAY!

arghhhragescreamcryohtheagonythepainwhywhy

Granted, we're spared the terror of the full 'O's, but even though it's only Higher Chinese we need to worry about I still can't help but have an ominous premonition. And its not like those who say "Oh no I'm going to fail T_T" after every test (and end up getting A1 anyway), because Chinese hasn't exactly been my strong point and I nearly didn't complete the paper.

I'd be glad to be proven wrong though. As they say, the good thing about being a pessimist is that you're always correct or pleasantly surprised. =3

Let this post mark the last day to be happy, before the bittersweet conclusion comes our way. And as a way of custom...

GOOD LUCK!

(even though it won't change anything and you don't really need it, but that felt good didn't it?)

EMB

Partly on the suggestion of zhaoxing, and partly of of sheer massive boredom, I finally decided to read the EMB today, which I haven't touched since...like THIMUN more than a month ago?

I'm surprised I actually bothered to read it at all though, especially with the *unplesant* run-in ive had with it (coughcough) as ben rightfully pointed out, and also since it's hardly every updated during the holidays. Besides, there would be much information for the bunch of us Sec 4s who've already graduated anyway.

(The only information that was relevant was regarding the certificates of failure participation we received for the Singapore Junior Physics Olympiad that we took part in half a year ago, which was what zhaoxing asked me to check the EMB for in the first place.)

Oh well, I can't say im not glad that there aren't much updates to the EMB...

I think there was a period of time where the same amount of new messages would be racked up in a single school day.

But as usual, the EMB provides fodder for yet another new blog post.

Re: Students kill frog brutally
From: HON CHIEW WENG 13-12-08
To: All Students

Dear Students,

I am appalled by the following article which describes how a group of students had killed a frog brutally...The school reported that the students had apologized and offered to serve in a community involvement project as atonement, I think they are insulting people who genuinely serve the less fortunate. Do you agree with me?

Obviously I don't, but considering that the message was posted a month back I probably shouldn't bother commenting on it. But as much as that act might be gross and gruesome, I guess there's just one thing bugging me: How exactly should they "atone", since them giving up their time to lend the less fortunate a helping hand is obviously an insult to other community welfare workers? Perhaps they should start up a new religion worshipping frogs in order to secure a safe passage to frog heaven for the poor innocent frog that they so brutally murdered. I suppose that would indeed be a much better use of their time.

Now that my little tirade has ended, I wonder why I actually posted this in the first place. Again out of sheer boredom I guess.

post count +1 =D

HAPPY NEW YEAR '09

And barely a week's rest after my last post, I am goaded into yet another new one in order to spread my greetings to all. Also because this is a much cheaper alternative than sending out SMSes to all my contacts, and not to mention that all my SMSes are failing to be sent probably since the telcos are being flooded right now.

What a great start to the new year huh.

I guess I'll resolve to post more actively in the year to come. But cynical me says that new year resolutions never come true.

Oh well. :(

And in case you still haven't received my SMS replies yet (stupid starhub), or are still not sick of hearing it twenty times in the past ten minutes, HAPPY NEW YEAR PEEPS!
