Mug
v. The Singaporean version of cramming for exams, i.e. scanning notes into one's brain. As if it wasn't filled with enough junk already.

Only if Necessary
adv. The night before for classroom assessments; one day for lecture tests; and one day and night (per subject) for major examinations.

This author is currently on hiatus for the ignoble cause of mugging. The public is advised to remain calm, as this routine protocol has been shown to have no effect on one's violent tendencies in 96% of cases.

End of Term Activities

EOTA was quite bad.
Well, what can you expect, with Baifeng and Jiakun being OS and AOS respectively...
I was at the street soccer court supporting 2N. Was supposed to be field soccer, but there was a last minute change, because JK apparently didn't ask Yaoxing for permission to use the field. And we actually saw other ppl playing soccer there today. =.= 6 teams a side, 12 people running after a ball on a street soccer court...you can imagine how cramped it was.

Semi-finals - 2N against 1M. Both teams are (equally?) good. But referee kayu. One guy from 1M handball FOUR times didn't even get a yellow card, Jing Jie got elbowed in the face once and was pushed down another time, and we were only awarded goal kicks. Guess who the referee was? Yep, Lester from 2L. And the other referee was hubert from 2N. Council pro right? Both are fat, but at least Hubert is better than Lester. Can spot handballs.
So when 1M was supposed to get at least 2 red cards, they didn't even get a yellow. In the end, we lost 3-4. Really sad, especially since the last goal by them was in the last 30 secs. Those guys are really violent, push here push there de.

Eventually, we won 2L on penalties in 3rd-4th placing, and got 3rd place. Which actually means that we're lousier than 2M, who got second. But we're NOT. It's thanks to the poor planning that we got such screwed up pairings. In semis, top 2 teams (2N and 1M) played against each other, and the same went for the bottom two teams (2L and 2M). Pro right. Should have been 1st and 4th teams one pair, and the 2nd and 3rd teams another pair. There is absolutely no sense in eliminating one of the top 2 teams in the semis.

Luckily the Council has commendable members like Terence (from Sec 3). When we complained to him about the poor planning and refereeing, he actually listened to our suggestions, and inside of the cliched "We will take your suggestions into consideration" reply with no action taken, he actually said he would try to get a rematch and replay the entire semis and finals. Good job. he should have been the OS instead of someone like baifeng.

Of course, i bet there's gonna be the usual "XX event was a great success. We would like to thank all students for their overwhelming support" message from the council, even if it was a total flop.

In the end, we left, rather pissed, without even claiming our third place prizes.

On a side note, I found this random pic on the Net today:
