of mooncakes and friends.
We had a visit from my father's Malaysian friend, who's in Singapore with his wife to celebrate the mid-autumn festival. They stayed over at our house just a couple of nights ago, and brought us some mooncakes too. =3
Comes with beautifully designed packaging, intricate patterns on the mooncake skin and of course, long names like "Shanghai White Lotus with Almond 1-Yolk (Reduced Sugar)". S$25 per box of 4. D:
The filling is one of the best ive tasted though, and pretty innovative (using "corn custard" in place of salted egg yolk ftw - cuts on costs too, prices of duck eggs went up liao leh o_O) Sadly, my mother denounces chocolate flavour as it "isn't traditional anymore". That's the older gen for you i guess =X
Going back to my dad's friend, they were actually childhood friends in their polytechnic days too. Later, they even became business partners, but somehow broke up afterwrads as the friend was reluctant to take risks and slowed the progress of my dad's company. During that period, their hatred was so great that even exchanged nasty letters and comments about each other, and their relationship soured in the busness world.
Years later, they managed to patch up and are now friends again, which explains why they still come over to visit us sometimes (and how we get those mooncakes too. <3) I guess what this illustrates is perhaps what I wrote in a previous post: "There are no eternal friends or foes."
It's unfortunate that emotions are so volatile - friendships can easily break up over a minor incident. But relations can be mended as well - even though it may take lots of time and effort, one can surely eliminate the bad feelings between them and their foes as well. Perhaps this is just another cycle in our tumultous world we are witnessing.
Have faith, and a happy mid-autumn festival! :)
