ill do a really short post today, since i have a Physics modular exam tmr, but its already 10+ pm yet i haven't studied for it yet...was playing audition in the afternoon =P *ahem* Anyway, would just like to share some photos i took during my short SIMO (Singapore International Maths Olymiad) Junior Group training stint at NUS. Its basically something like Maths Quiz Training or Maths Club (depends on what your school calls it), except we have professors to teach us, and the stuff taught is much more complicated. We were selected to go for this training based on our SMO(J) results, and there were 9 HCI ppl selected, including Derek, Daren, Jiakun, Yuanxi, Kenneth and me. Tiansheng was also chosen (duh), but being the slacker that he was, he declined to go for the training. Apparently, Derek, Jiakun, Tiansheng, Julian and Huang Ji were those from 1N selected for the training last year, but this year, only Derek, Jiakun and me were selected. Which means im the "newcomer". O.O Altho they teach almost the same things every year... During the duration of the programme, i obviously learnt a lot of new skills and concepts useful for solving maths problems. In addition, i actually met one of my ex-classmates from 6H - Barry Tng - who is a maths pro and in RI now. He was also one of The Chosen Ones last year. Oh, and they actually order Hock Guan curry puffs for us to eat during break...fully sponsored by NUS. Heck, we didn't even have to pay a single cent at all for this training. NUS very rich mah... And so...here comes the part you've all been waiting for...the PHOTOS! (sadly, some of them are rather blur, that's cos i was rushing and moved the camera away too early) Flickr Photo Set (do read the description and comments!) I'll comment on a couple of them... The guy on the left-hand side is Derek, while the one on the right is Barry. im pretty surprised barrys' taller than Derek - he used to be rather short in primary school too. Well, maybe its becos Derek is short, not becos Barry is tall :P But im still taller than both of them!! MUAHAHAHA PWNT. Everybody's rushing to grab their curry puffs. Usually, some people don't manage to get one cos some ppl take more than 1 for themselves...*stares at yuanxi* I heard from the others that there were always leftovers last year...but this year, the curry puffs are all gone less than 2 mins after we are released fo our break! For more pictures, take a look at my Flickr set. ill blog about the Muar Exchange at a later date, after ive got more photos... BTW Mr Edmund Teo didn't come around to our class today. Phew. |

There's no use crying over spilt milk. What's over is over. Or is it? The person i (and 2 out of the 3 other blogs i linked to) mentioned/niaoed in my previous post apparently does not think so. Once again, he has shown his immaturity by "reporting to authorities" about his unhappiness about the sec 2 camp. Except that it's his mother doing the dirty work for him. She actually called up the company (Saint Adventures) and complained to them, and even talked to and lectured Faizal aka towkay and Bernard! (our camp trainers who niao that person like siao) Walao eh. To what extrememest means will a mother go to protect her fledgling child from every single tiny threat? And as usual, the boy went for couselling with Mr. Edmund Teo again (during RP today). Except this time, he actually even roped in his "best friend" Wei Qi. Pls, stop involving other people in your own matters! Are you that incapable of sorting things out yourself? How is he going to survive in the future? Lets not even talk about NS, which is only like 4-5 years away (you mean your mum can, and will complain to MINDEF just becos your platoon commander pumped you?). Heck, as early as next year, we're all gonna have to go for OBS. How is he going to survive in the jungle if he's so sheltered and afraid of everything? And not to forget that he is actualy a scout. A rather useless one at that, considering that i, an EX-scout, can tie knots better than he can. Perhaps that's becos his mum actually says that "if they pump him, he has the right to walk out of scout trainings." Im sorry to tell u this, Mrs Ooi, but your sheltering of your son does him no good at all. You have to let him grow up. Let him face reality, instead of allowing him to cower under your protective wings. He cannot depend on you forever. It's an ugly world out there - the weak get taunted and left behind. For your own son's sake, please, please stop controlling and doing everything for him! Also, Qi En, you should really try to toughen up. Be independent and brave. The main reason why you are always discriminated against is due to others' perception of you as "nerdy" and "mummy's boy." Stop reporting and complaining about every single thing to your mother. take it in your stride. And next year, when everyone is allocated into new classes, start anew. Don't make the same mistake again. I think Mr. Teo is going to come around to our class again tmr...the second time in one month over the (almost) same issue =x But i think this time, i will speak out my thoughts... Footnote: See, gahmen say must give constructive criticism, cannot encourage cynicism, so here i also got give suggestions leh! Folo gahmen standards, very de good one, hor? |

This post is overdue for 2.5 days already since i came back from camp. Was too busy with catching up on lost sleep and going for the muar exchange activites that i didn't have time for blogging, so finally, here's my (extremely long) take on the Sec 2 Annual Camp *cheers* The Sec 2 Camp was filled with much... Nevertheless, it was fun. Camp trainers always say, "Since you are already here, might as well make your time and money well-spent and have a positive attitude so you can enjoy the camp." Some people go in with a positive attitude and have fun, other go in with a pessimistic attitude and complain about everything, and even complain to their parents or the school after the camp, while others go in with a fairly negative attitude but cheer up after some games and activities. However, there is a very isolated type of people, to be precise 1/26 of the population, who go in with a optimistic and perhaps overly-enthusiastic attitude but emerge emoionally shattered at the end of it. Why? This is because they lack the physical and emotional stamina, strength and maturity to face the hardships present in camps. One of the (supposed) objectives of any camp is the toughen you up. True, it forces you to live outside of your comfort zone, blah, blah, blah. But then again, it might bring about new fears or show your weaknesses. If one were bitten by a horsefly, it might bring about a fear of horseflies and perhaps even houseflies, butterflies, flyers, etc. As a rather imaginative classmate of mine said, Once bitten by a snake, you will be scared of ropes for ten years. A horsefly bite is rather painful. However, there are 2 possible reactions to it. 1. You are brave and simply whack the fly off, then scoff at the blood left behind from its bite and shrug, "That was nothing, just a little pain." 2. Your legs become jelly and you stand there petrified, screaming "Help! Help! There's some insect on my leg! Its very painful! AHHH HELP! I'm going to die!!!" as the horsefly sucks out your blood and happily flies away. Unsurprisingly, both types of people exist in this world and in our class, although i do believe the first type outnumbers the second. 2 people were bitten, the former had the second reaction, while the latter was smiling and laughing away (at the first person) even after seeing the blood from the bite. Camps can also show your weaknesses. One groupmate, after climbing up the low wall (in the Standard Obstacle Course) with much assistance, sat down on top of it and looked down at the ground below, but not daring to jump off. This was despite the camp trainer just beside him and consoling (or perhaps niaoing) him. He was also so feeble that he had to apply mosquito repellent (which smells quite a bit) every night in the tent and didn't dare sleep for he was afraid of mosquito bites. Thus we can see that the "toughening" in camps can go both ways; if you are brave enough, you can overcome your fears, but if you are too weak, it will only heighten your fears. Similarly, another objective of camps is to increase maturity levels. Perhaps people do become more mature after being cut off from civilisation and MapleStory (eew) for a few days. Yet, there is often a display of immaturity during camps. Such actions include calling your mother every night, "reporting to authorities" (as quoted from one's handphone conversation with his mother) who don't listen to you anyway, whining about feeling "redundant" becos one did not take part in our activites in the first place in the first place, and bitching about being barred from activities because you didn't follow the rules and pissed the trainer off. Yet, these problematic people can also cause much inconvenience to the other campers and hinder them from enjoying themselves, in their own selfish desires to run away from their fears and weaknesses (instead of overcoming them.) For example, when our camp trainer put one such person to lead the group during the Nature Ramble (which was basically a trek through nature), that person, who was also coincidentally very much afraid of insects, simply made a U-turn back to camp, thus we did not get to have the experience of wading through mud pools and the like. While other groups emerged all muddy and dirty, we came out largely clean (except for julian, who fell into some mud :P) Although pessimistic people and muggers would have been glad that they did not need to get down and dirty, most of us were very angry and disappionted that our fun was cut short all becos of him. These people waste their time in camps. Not only do they not gain anything from the camp other than more phobias, an unstable mind and lots of niaoing from their groupmates and even trainers, but they also cause others to not have fun. These people are the black sheep, which is why everyone hates them. Thus, they are excluded from activities, but they complain that they are isolated when they do not contribute to the group themselves. Camps are made much worse by these people. I must say the sec 2 camp would have been much better had it not been for those pessimistic, unenthu, weak and bitchy people. Not sure who that certain person whose actions are featured in this post is? i already said, the Sec 2 Camp was filled with much... We brought the Muar students to the Singapore Zoo and the Night Safari (yea i know, those 2 places are very cliche) I have hardly any time left for blogging now, so to cut a very long story very short, we had some (boring) lab practicals for sabbaticals, then we left for the zoo, then ate dinner at KFC b4 going to the Night Safari. The first part was dam cool...they had these (native?) dancers who did cool stuff like breathing out fire. Then, we entered and headed for the Creatures of the Night show. There were very long queues outside the amphitheater, and there was quite a bit of jostling and shouting from the crowd control ppl. All this on a manday summore. what if it had been a sunday, with more tourists and visitors? Dunno what screwed up tho. then this guy beside me motioned to one of the crowd controllers, and pointed out his colleague was shouting very rudely earlier. You could see that the other guy was very flustered, and he quickly replied something to the point of: "Sorry, thank you for your understanding." Then the first guy's retort was dam pro la. He said smth like, "I think its very rude for the guides to shout like that. This is not the way to go if you want to get 4 million smiles." Niao gahmen summore. But gahmen say mus smile, then must smile, even if Night Safari staff is shouting at you to not cut queues. In the end, still can get 4 million I still have a lot more things to say (e.g. Singapore Tourism Award nominations etc.), but sadly i have really no time to talk about it now :( |

Feeling rather woozy right now after waking up from an unexpected nap... *bangs head on keybord*uidrygfber Ow. Anyway, i took the SMRT bus 963 on the way home today, with Derek, his twin Daren, and Daren's friend Kenneth. We were sitting on the two rows of seats right behind the driver at the front of the bus, with the twins taking the seats facing the front while Kenneth and i took the seats behind them, facing the back of the bus. It all started when Kenneth hit the seat in front, causing a mushroom cloud of dust Ok fine, so maybe a nuclear explosion's a little exaggerated, but you get my point about just how thick the layer of dust was. Being the naughty little twins that they were, Derek and Daren began whacking each other's seats, causing clouds of dust to fly up. Kenneth and I tried it on our own seats, and sure enough, they were also very dusty. After countless sneezes, watery eyes and irritated throats later, the evil Derek came up with a plan: When passengers stepped into the bus, Kenneth was to hit the (empty) seat in front of him, and see if people would still sit there after the dust erupted from it. Lol yeah, kinda childish, but he tried it at the next stop anyway, and sure enough an auntie who was about to sit down quickly changed her mind and walked quickly to the back of the bus. Suddenly, an Indian man sitting on the other side of the bus (the left side) barked at us, "Hey, guys, stop it." We all guai guai stop lor, and the two twins were getting off at the next stop anyway. Though i don't quite see how he is affected - he was sitting 3m away from us so the dust would hardly reach him. Unless he's the CEO of SMRT, then dowan the passengers to know how dirty their buses are... <_< I realised that there was quite a bit of dust on my specs and watch later, heh. But making all dust fly from the seats was quite cool, i must admit. The bus driver should thank us for helping him dust his bus. =X In any case, this shows the bad condition SMRT buses are in. Is it really that hard for the bus driver to just spend one hour dusting and cleaning his bus? And they still say they want to increase bus fares. Your buses in such lousy condition, still want us pay extra for what? That is why you should have PVC leather seats instead of furry ones, cos they dont collect dust that easily. And that is where SBS scores better than SMRT. Here's a brief comparison between SBS and SMRT buses, from my experience: SBS Waiting time: Quite fast Availability of seats (peak period): 50% Comfort: Average Cleanliness: Above average Air-conditioning: Often too hot or too cold Travelling speed: Quite slow Miscellanous: TVMobile, which airs the same shows 3 times a day SMRT Waiting time: Very slow Availability of seats (peak period): 25% Comfort: Average Cleanliness: Dirty Air-conditioning: Just right Travelling speed: Fast Miscellanous: Flashing bar which tells you which stop it is, except it sometimes says you are in Orchard Road when you are in Ang Mo Kio. Conclusion: For speed, take SMRT. But in terms of bus conditions, SBS is still better. Which is probably why it happens to be the biggest transport operator in Singapore. |

Really nothing much to blog about for today. But im feeling pretty relieved since all our tests this term (except physics modular exam, which is like, 2 weeks away?) have passed, and my marks haven't been too bad either. Amazingly, for maths, more than half the class (14 pppl) got A1, which is about 3 times my prediction yesterday. Wow. Sadly, 3 ppl failed and another 2 got borderline pass, which shows that our class is pretty divided in standards of math. About half pro, 1/3 average, and 1/5 bad. And tiansheng and honghui so lucky, get to do 2M's paper, which is easier than ours. Not surprisingly, TS got full marks. The bonus question is almost simlar to one of the qns in our assignments! (trigo WA 1, qn 9) WTF. Geog results were suprisingly good too. Derek got 19.5/25, I got 21/25, ryan got 21.5/25, and YYY got 23.5/25!! Congrats on being the top in class :D And today, yuxuan stole my ez-link card, took a photo of my pri sch photo, then flashed the pic on his hp of Qi En's ez-link photo on the visualizer. Evil dude. At least my photo doesn't look so bad, but the skin is a little greenish. x.x But qi en looked so pitiful...he just sat there, stared at his photo on the projector screen, then later went out of the class and looked outside, at the fountain thingy or smth. Before that, he was trying to protect his "friend" weiqi, who was being harassed by TS again, despite the many handphones whipped out to take a video of the spectacle. Kind of foolish, i must say, considering TS's strength and that he's from wushu. Anyway, now for the more interesting part. While having lunch at KAP, the 2L peeps jay, nelson and zack came along also. While chatting, they said that several teachers like TanHC and Ms Foo had remarked to them that their class was the best in BEHAVIOUR. w00t. Kinda ironic, since we kept quiet during maths lesson a couple of days ago, and ms Gwee got pissed and stormed out. So i guess we should follow 2L's example, with the big-mouths in there like Jay and Nelson, and talk more crap. 2N used to be the best-performing class last year, but i guess out reputation slipped thanks to our decrease in mugging activity. It seems we're getting slackier and slackier, and sometimes, up to 3/4 of the class can actually not do a piece of work. Even derek and ben, the two greatest muggers in class, have broken their 100% submission of work this year. So much of the class ends up copying homework in class during recess. That's what i call class spirit. xD but i still think 2M is much worse than us, with russell, wilfred, and the many other AP ppl in there. oh and sorry bing, i wont do that quiz cos the questions are totally random crap. ill only do quizzes if they're actually interesting... |

I WAS posting from the HCI comp lab, along with shaun, andai and yiyong (who havbe some edc meeting at 4.15pm), using portable FF to post this entry. xD And shaun deleted my previous post =.= so i decided i had better stuff to blog about, and scrapped the topic about handphones. We had our maths test today, and it was bloody difficult. 7 qns, 40 marks, 1 hour. 3 of the qns (worth 15 marks) were very hard, while the other 4 qns were average. If you couldn't do those 3 qns (which is very probable), you can get a maximum of only 25/40, which is not even a B3. i think only less than 5 ppl in the class (maths pros like derek) will be able to get A1. rather unfair since i heard 2M's test was much easier...>.< i realised YYY tagged me, so here's the stuff... We (the whole class) had a counselling session with Mr Edmund Teo and Ms Letchmi today over the recent conflict between Bing and Qi En, and one of the issues raised was about blogging. Not surprising, especially since the whole thing started from a couple of blog posts, and then it escalated. Won't comment about that part though. What i will talk about today is the limits of blogging. We were advised to not post inflammatory comments in our blogs. We were told it was okay if they were just our private thoughts - for we are, after all, entitled to our own views - and we were free to put them in a private diary, or just keep them in your head. But if we posted them on blogs, our responsibilty would become much greater, for blogs are accessible to the public. Locking your blog won't help much either, because "there are ways to get around it" and there are people who will do just that. (However, this contrasts with what KC told us, that is: that if you lock your blog, it becomes something like a private space becos it wont be accessible to the general public. if someone hacks in and sees salnderous msgs, he cannot hold it against you becos he is not supposed to be see it in the first place.) Finally, the conclusion: You should not post about others on your blog, for that might bring about feelings of unhappiness and hurt. You should also not post about yourself on your blog, for the info can be used against you. In that case, what else is there to blog about? Cannot blog about other ppl, else get into trouble for slander. Cannot blog about yourself, else get yourself into trouble. Cannot blog about teachers, else PTG sure die le. Cannot blog about school (esp about AJC), or else will tarnish school reputation and increase chances of being expelled. Cannot blog about gahmen, else mata come raid your home and arrest you. Cannot blog about other countries, else Mr. Abdullah Badawi come suan you. So how?? Would anyone like to listen about me blogging about my pet stone? Oh wait, sorry, I forgot i don't have a pet... If blogging is really like a sea of sharks, I'm pretty surprised that Blogger© can be that successful, even up till now. |

SACA can wait. xD I just had a short MSN convo with Yufan from 2M, and it left me rather shaken... ----------------------------------------- (9:57 PM) (。◕‿◕。)<宇凡>: i msut tell u sth pls allow me (9:58 PM) SACA was OWNAGE!: ya (9:58 PM) (。◕‿◕。)<宇凡>: UR HANDWRITING SUX (9:58 PM) SACA was OWNAGE!: mmhmm... (9:58 PM) (。◕‿◕。)<宇凡>: we're experiencing extrme difficulty trying to read ur hist essay lol no offence (9:59 PM) SACA was OWNAGE!: BONG PRINTED OUT MY HISTORY ESSAY FOR YOU GUYS?! (9:59 PM) (。◕‿◕。)<宇凡>: no he uploaded on to the iVLE in his record book (9:59 PM) (。◕‿◕。)<宇凡>: together with Ooi's and weijing's (10:00 PM) SACA was OWNAGE!: o...kkay ----------------------------------------- Two conclusions i drew from all that: 1) You don't need to study to get good grades for B.Ong's tests 2) Yufan is such a mugger that he bothers to download others' hist essay for revision. which links back to point 1, which shows that he is fei4. I mean, OMG. am i really that pro? I can't rmb a single one of bong's lessons which i didn't fall asleep in. Heck, i even fell asleep during his "Discussion in History" thingy. and here i am, having my history essay uploaded as a MODEL ESSAY. Wow. I couldn't really be bothered when bong flashed my essay on the projector. I was falling asleep (as usual). anD somEone was angRy that his Essay wasn't picKed as one of the better ones? ok, so maybe it was due to the fact that i got 7 marks for my first qn and 7/16 in total, whereas his total score was 9/16. That beats me! :P (update: that someone says that "they were only joking" and that he "was in fact angry at them who spread the rumours [about him getting pissed that his essay wasn't picked].") I still have lit and hist to study for tmr. See, Mug Only If Strictly Necessary. that should be my motto. xD Oh btw, my essay can be accessed here (save it as .pdf). See how crappy it is. xD |

Wow, I've restarted blogging again, thanks to the constant pestering of YYY. I just hope this blog won't fizzle out again, like many others... I'm creating this blog to post my frank comments and thoughts about what's happening in my life. Yeah, mine. Just try not to be too offended, 'kay? If you are, just: 1) Clench your fist. 2) Look straight at your computer monitor/CPU. 3) Punch out. Hard. Don't blame me if you break a bone or two, though. Also, I guess this blog acts as a repository (read: place where things are stored) for my thoughts and reflections, perhaps for use in some imaginary future portfolio. Talking about portfolios, I realised this is a very bad time to suddenly start blogging. 1) I have - An SLC Portfolio (read: a portfolio which you have to show to your parents, which contains stuff like achievements what they already know, supposedly so they can know your progress in school.) - Maths Assignment REDO (read: due to poor "presentation". cos we maths pros, so we supposedly can solve maths qns but cannot make other ppl cannot understand. i mean COMEON.) => ill blog about this later. - To revise for Lit and History tests. All which is supposed to be done by Monday. Win liao. 2) Lotsa stuff which have happened in the recent weeks which i-should-have-blogged-about-but-didn't -cos-this-blog-was-non-existant-then like: - Apples - Army Daze - Teachers flaring up - Class outings - Playing LAN/Visiting YYY's house - Audition! - SACA, SACA, SACA!! Man, talk about good timing. I'll post about SACA tmr. Work for today: Get a blogskin and format my blog. The original blogger one is dam oogly. |
